Topic : Scaffolding EMI Learning: Constructing Preparation Courses
Abstract
This talk purports to introduce the English-Medium-Instruction Preparation Program (EMIPP) and the English Enhancement Program (EEP) at National Taiwan University, two English courses constructed with reference to the ADDIE model in attempts to scaffold EMI learning. The EMIPP constitutes a freshman English module that aims specifically to cultivate the English skills required to take EMI courses more effectively, such as integrated language skills, script writing skills, and so forth. The EEP recruits trainee English teachers to develop and administer lessons customized to cater for the students coming from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in the hope to ease their anxiety (and path) for taking EMI courses. The presenters will conclude with suggestions for applying the ADDIE model to English course development.
